Referrers
Juneau Youth Services accepts referrals for youth from across Alaska. Any young person, parent, guardian or professional can initiate a referral for any JYS program. You can contact us using fax ((907) 789-8443) phone ((907) 789-7610), email (Link@jys.org) or walk-in. Referrals will receive a response within three days.
If you would like one of our representatives to contact you, please provide an email address and we will reach out within one business day.
Local Referrals
We believe it should be as easy as possible for young people and families to find us and engage in treatment quickly. If you’re interested in making a referral or have any questions, call The Link at (907) 789-7610. The Link will provide you with information, an assessment and help you obtain services through JYS or other area providers.
The first step is an assessment. Our assessments are integrated and explore both behavioral health and substance abuse concerns. You can elect to have an assessment the same day you call, either at our offices, a local school, over Zoom or in your home. You can also schedule an assessment for a time that is convenient for you.
After the assessment, the clinician discusses treatment options with you, including programs JYS offers, as well as additional programs offered in Juneau. If you choose to participate in JYS programming, The Link will work with you to establish a treatment plan and start services. If you choose programming outside of JYS, we can provide you with a case manager to help you obtain the services you’d like to receive.
Remote Referrals
Most remote referrals are specifically for residential treatment services. We have two residential units and therapeutic foster care. We welcome referrals from parents, the Office of Children’s Services, the Department of Juvenile Justice, hospitals, and other residential facilities. The best way to make a referral is to call The Link at (907) 789-7610.
Upon receiving a referral, our intake specialist determines if an assessment has been recently completed and includes a recommendation for residential treatment or therapeutic foster care. If an assessment is not available, The Link will provide one within three business days or at the convenience of the youth and family, or current treatment team. If an assessment recommending residential treatment or therapeutic foster care has been received, The Link clinician will establish an interview with the youth, their parents and/or treatment team to discuss our programming, the needs of the youth and family, and jointly determine if JYS is the right placement. If everyone feels confident JYS can help the youth and family, we will make travel arrangements and get ready to welcome the youth and start treatment.
If you have any questions or need assistance with a referral please contact us at (907) 789-7610, Link@jys.org or (907) 789-8443.
